Psychology

Clinical psychologists are specialist mental health practitioners equipped to assist in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychological conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. Clinical psychologists use psychotherapy (or “talking therapy”) as the primary means for helping patients experience relief from their symptoms. This typically involves meeting one-on-one with the psychologist over several weeks to work through the issues impacting life. A psychologist can also work with you, and your doctor, to better understand the nature of your difficulties and provide recommendations for how they can be managed.

At TSMP our clinical psychology services are provided by Braden Dunn. If you would like to see Braden, speak to your GP about completing a referral. Medicare, Private Health Extras, NDIS, DVA and WorkCover QLD rebates are available to eligible patients. Alternatively, you can review Braden’s details, experience, and contact him directly through his website: https://www.dunnpsychotherapy.com.au

Braden joined the TSMP team in 2024. He is an endorsed clinical psychologist with experience in public, private, and academic sectors. Braden grew up in Victoria, moving to Townsville in 2011 to undertake his professional studies in psychology. He has stayed ever since and is now raising a family in sunny North Queensland.

Braden works across the private and public health sectors, where he is a clinician and clinical educator. Braden has a strong interest in teaching and supporting the next generation of mental health practitioners. He is also involved in clinical research and has previously lectured for James Cook University.

Braden’s special interest area is in youth mental health and complex trauma. He is experienced in treating PTSD, Complex PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder, as well as mood and other anxiety-based conditions.

Social Work

A Social Worker provides an important bridge between medical care and the broader social, emotional and practical factors that influence a patient’s health.

At TSMP, our Social Worker Julie supports patients, families and carers to navigate complex systems such as Centrelink, NDIS, My Aged Care and QCAT, while also assisting with home care arrangements, residential aged care placement and advance care planning. She works alongside patients at their own pace, helping them understand requirements, complete applications and access the right services.

More broadly, social workers in general practice are trained allied health professionals who focus on the “whole person”—not just medical issues, but the social determinants of health such as housing, finances, family stress and access to care. They provide counselling, advocacy, care coordination and links to community services, helping patients manage challenges, improve wellbeing and better engage with the healthcare system.

Within a general practice team, this role enhances holistic care by addressing complex psychosocial needs, supporting GPs and nurses, and improving patient outcomes through coordinated, patient-centred support

General Practice Pharmacist

Amy, our General Practice (GP) Pharmacist at TSMP plays a key role in ensuring the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medicines, working closely with both patients and the clinical team.

The GP Pharmacist supports doctors by reviewing medications, identifying potential risks (such as interactions or side effects), and helping optimise prescribing decisions. Their primary focus is to improve medication safety and quality use of medicines, reducing the risk of medication-related harm and improving patient outcomes.

For patients, the GP Pharmacist provides personalised medication advice, helps them better understand their treatments, and supports adherence to medications—particularly for those with complex or chronic conditions. They may conduct medication reviews, answer medication-related questions, and help simplify treatment regimens to make them safer and easier to follow.

Overall, the GP Pharmacist enhances holistic, team-based care—supporting both doctors and patients by ensuring medicines are used safely, effectively and in a way that delivers the best possible health outcomes.
