Physiotherapists are highly qualified health professionals who work in partnership with their patients to help people get better and stay well.

Physiotherapists also work closely with GPs and other health clinicians to plan and manage treatment. GPs refer more patients to physiotherapists than any other healthcare profession.

Using advanced techniques and evidence-based care, physiotherapists assess, diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders. Physiotherapy helps repair damage, reduce stiffness and pain, increase mobility and improve quality of life.

Physiotherapy extends from health promotion to injury prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, maintenance of functional mobility, chronic disease management, patient and carer education and occupational health.

Phoenix Podiatry Centre is located at Townsville and Suburban Medical Centre.

Phoenix Podiatry caters for all foot complaints and all members of the family. Orthotics and insoles are available for prescription and Revere footwear available for purchase. EPC and DVA referrals are welcomed and HiCAPS and EFTPOS facilities are now available.

Podiatrist Julie Goodall has been working as a Podiatrist since 1991 and has owned private practices in Rockhampton and Melbourne before returning to her home town of Townsville in 2010. After working in the public health sector for several years, Julie has built on her chronic disease and high risk foot skills and has seen a need in Townsville for Podiatric chronic disease management.

Exercise Physiology

As an exercise physiologist, we have the knowledge to assist patients in varying states of health and ill-health.  Not every diagnosis of chronic disease (eg. Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis) is treated the same.  Every patient is an individual and sometimes has more than one health concern to treat and manage.  Here at TSMP, we are able to manage your health as part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely alongside your GP, EPC nurse and other allied health team members.

An exercise physiologist’s role is to work with you to help set health goals and to work with you on these goals, whilst managing your other health conditions.  For example, you may have to lose weight to lower your cardiac risk factors, but you may have osteoarthritis of your knee.  You may have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and require bone strengthening exercises, but you may have a back injury.

At TSMP we offer the following exercise physiology services:

  • Assess and plan individual exercise needs
  • Type 2 diabetes education classes
  • Hydrotherapy (remedial water exercise)
  • Clinical Pilates
  • Gymnasium sessions
  • Falls prevention and guidance

These are just a few examples of combined health conditions that an exercise physiologist will have to manage to help you achieve your health goals.

Take home message: an exercise physiologist will assist you with your health goals by treating the whole person, not just one condition.
