As an exercise physiologist, we have the knowledge to assist patients in varying states of health and ill-health. Not every diagnosis of chronic disease (eg. Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis) is treated the same. Every patient is an individual and sometimes has more than one health concern to treat and manage. Here at TSMP, we are able to manage your health as part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely alongside your GP, chronic disease nurse and other allied health team members.
An exercise physiologist’s role is to work with you to help set health goals and to work with you on these goals, whilst managing your other health conditions. For example, you may have to lose weight to lower your cardiac risk factors, but you may have osteoarthritis of your knee. You may have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and require bone strengthening exercises, but you may have a back injury.
At TSMP we offer the following exercise physiology services:
These are just a few examples of combined health conditions that an exercise physiologist will have to manage to help you achieve your health goals.
Take home message: an exercise physiologist will assist you with your health goals by treating the whole person, not just one condition.
