Our doctors and allied health practitioners are experienced in work injury management where the philosophy of “stay at work” and “return to work” is central in their clinical management of injured employees.
We work within the WorkCover Queensland framework and utilise their standard documentation. We are also flexible with using internal suitable duties plans and other documentation.
Our doctors prefer to work as a team with the employee and employer with timely communication and through evidence-based clinical management to ensure a positive result for everyone. We have an exercise physiologist in our team who can assist with rehabilitation and networks of physiotherapists and occupational therapists who can provide input and assistance when necessary.

Functional capacity evaluations (FCEs) are very valuable in assessing a person’s physical capabilities and function to safely perform their job demands. These can be used as a pre-employment screen to assess someone’s suitability to a certain job role, or an annual assessment to confirm correct manual handling and injury prevention.
The benefits of conducting an FCE can include having safer work places, less workplace injuries and ensuring employees are correctly matched to their job role.
FCEs can be designed to suit every job role. A generalised FCE includes positional tolerances, physical characteristics, cardiovascular fitness testing, and manual handling.
We offer audiometry (hearing) testing in both our accredited audiometric testing booth and specifically constructed sound dampened room using computer-based audio screening. All audiometric testing is conducted in accordance with AS/NZS 1269.4 Occupational Noise Management Part 4. A report and explanation is provided for the employee/employer showing hearing level for each frequency compared to the norms for the age of the employee. The results will indicate if there is baseline, occupational or possibly other causes for hearing loss.
Spirometry (lung function) testing is available for companies as a baseline for pre-employment medicals or ongoing testing as required to help maintain a safe working environment for their employees. The testing is conducted to measure the flow volume of air from the lungs. The result will indicate if there is any narrowing of the airways and quantify any abnormal lung function in a non-invasive manner. The test is performed by our registered nurses and all results are reviewed by one of our doctors afterward. We are one of the few practices in Townsville accredited as a practice for the Queensland Coal Mine Workers surveillance program.
The practice provides resting ECGs if necessary. These give a baseline of heart health which is especially important in those working with electricity, have a pre-existing heart condition or are over the age of 50. If a stress ECG is required these can be facilitated with one of our cardiologist partners.
Drug and alcohol testing is a statutory requirement in some industries and has also been adopted in other industries to help maintain a safe working environment. We provide instant drug and alcohol screening utilising a 7 panel drug kit which also tests for alcohol and includes 6 adulterant checks. The test kit meets the Australian Standards AS/NZS 4308:2008
We also offer gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GCMS) drug and alcohol testing through a pathology laboratory with the pathology blood room co-located at our practice. Confirmatory testing of any non-negative instant results are recommended using GCMS.

Our dietician and exercise physiologist are also accredited facilitators of the Healthy Eating Activity and Lifestyle (HEAL™) program. HEAL is a lifestyle modification program that enables participants to develop lifelong healthy eating and physical activity behaviours. HEAL consists of 8 weekly group education and group exercise sessions as well as individual consultations pre- and post-program and 5 and 12 month follow-up health consultations. Each week participants undertake 1 hour of supervised group-based low to moderate intensity physical activity followed by a 1 hour group-based healthy lifestyle education class
Educational sessions are available for your workplace on a range of topics including; healthy eating, fatigue management, weight management, meal preparation, food for mood and
chronic disease management. If your workplace has a specific nutrition topic they would like a session on please just ask. Maybe your workplace is going to participate in a team fun run and need some sport nutrition tips. We also offer Skype and email consultation who those who travel or have limited time availability.

Vaccinating your employees against influenza has shown to be cost effective as employees remaining
healthier, reducing absenteeism and increasing productivity.
We will be able to provide consent forms, information leaflets, posters for your work site and a user-friendly online appointment system to assist you with a vaccination program for your employees.
If other occupational risks exist we can also facilitate other vaccine programs. Examples include but are not limited to Q fever, rabies, hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus and whooping cough.
Our doctors are qualified to complete whole body skin checks and advise on appropriate management. Occupational and lifetime exposure to the sun increases the risk of skin cancer many fold. Yearly skin checks can decrease the morbidity associated with developing skin cancer by allowing early intervention.
